High Performing Learning Places
Keynote: Frank Locker

In this presentation Dr. Locker will outline the shift in educational goals and values that characterize innovative 21st Century learning, and will share examples of school organizational concepts, daily practices, and furniture and facilities that support them. He will challenge the audience with several questions related to how these apply to teaching, learning, and facilities design, and facilitate small group reflection and sharing at breaks in the presentation.

Disruption by Design: Liberating the Genius of 21st Century Learners
Keynote: Angela Maiers

The primary two questions that should be considered when planning a new learning facility are:

  • Who will use this facility?
  • What will they be doing there?
This talk will focus on how learning and learners have changed in the 21st Century, and the dramatic transformation that lies ahead, to prepare today's students for success in the world and workforce.

Start With Building
Keynote: Alex Gilliam

Great things happen in learning and school when we tap into those most elemental of human traits, the joy of discovering the world through ‘building’ and play, and the desire to positively impact the world around us. Alex will share his inspiring work putting youth at the forefront of redesigning and rebuilding public spaces, playgrounds, maker spaces and schools in communities across the United States and the rich implications these projects have on how we design for learning in the 21st Century.
