Rethinking Education through Planning and Design
A Message from the President
Welcome to the 2016 A4LE VA - Southeast Region Annual Conference, once again being held at the Williamsburg Lodge! The Board of Directors hopes you will be happy with the program we’ve created that will enhance your knowledge and ability to design and operate schools that promote world class learning. As is our custom, we have selected two world class keynote speakers that will provide messages addressing the most current thought trends in classroom design. Stephen Ritz will provide his thoughts on project-based learning and share his story launching the Green Bronx Machine. Will Richardson will share how the Web and other technologies can provide diverse new learning opportunities. Our breakout sessions will be delivered by practitioners who are in the trenches daily. Please plan to attend a session in each of the three times we have provided in the schedule. Our challenge was to offer a wide variety of topics which will help you, the professionals tasked with helping educate the future of our country, provide the thoughtful, effective work that is the hallmark of A4LE members. Each breakout session is presented by volunteers who recognize the value of good planning, construction, operation and teaching within schools. If you feel you gained something from these sessions, please thank our presenters.
As I complete my year as president, I want to thank the dedicated volunteers of my Board of Directors which is comprised of public school administrators, design and construction professionals who gave selflessly of their time and talents to bring this conference as well as our mid-year conference to fruition. If you have not become a member of A4LE, I encourage you to do so. You will have access to one of the best sources of school related design that exists. Go to our website, www.VA4LE.org for details as well as information on all our programs and events. Conference related PowerPoints will be posted on this website after the conference has concluded.
Thank you for attending our conference and enjoy the learning and fellowship experience.
President, VA Chapter of A4LE
