Virginia Educational Facility Planners

Designing Schools for Future Makers

A Message from the President

The Virginia Chapter of the Association for Learning Environments (VA4LE) is a professional organization committed to continually improving the places and spaces where students learn. Specifically, our Mission is "to promote creative and responsible planning of school facilities, to foster professional development, and to exchange best practice knowledge of Virginia school facilities in order to provide the best possible learning environments for all students." We are an advocate and resource for excellence in learning environments that help today's and future students thrive. We serve those who use, plan, design, construct, maintain, equip and operate educational facilities. We invite you to become involved with VA4LE. See why nearly 4,000 of your peers and colleagues nationally and over 100 private firms and school districts in Virginia are part of the effort to positively impact the learning environments of PreK-12 students and help them succeed globally.

Each year the VA4LE provides two thought-provoking events that help deliver value to attendees – a mid-year conference held at a Virginia K-12 school that exhibits innovative and relevant ways of teaching and learning, and an annual conference that introduces world-renowned speakers to discuss and collaborate theories and practices of leading educational concepts and the design of buildings that support those concepts.

Over 115 attendees gathered at our Virginia Chapter Mid-Year Conference held at Discovery STEM Academy in Newport News, Virginia to explore the future of STEM learning, including a planning process that links academic and resource plans to strategic priorities. This new school embraces Newport News Public Schools’ significant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) pedagogical initiative where spaces facilitate student-drive, real-world, project-based learning. These environments promote a “learning revolution” by focusing on the whole person, challenging students to be innovative, adaptable and operate in collaborative ways.

We invite you to join us in Williamsburg, Virginia, May 1 – May 2, 2017 for the Virginia Chapter Annual Conference, which promises to be exceptional. The Conference will help all attendees recognize the skills they need to take on the challenges of a world defined by change. More than 100 private firms and school districts in Virginia will gather to participate in groundbreaking educational sessions, listen to inspiring keynotes, and visit showcase exhibits with state-of-the-art tools, all that move teaching and learning into the future. We truly appreciate the support of our sponsors and value our strong relationships with them.
